Square Foot Garden with thumb

Returning to blogging. Chloe is now an old dog - too old to chase rabbits on the trail, though she'd like to. She's 13. We amble about the yard now several times a day. Occasionally she'll break into sprinting in her old greyhound fashion.

Here is one of the boxes we're using to grow some vegetables. The biggest is one of the Early Girls Joelle gave us. Closest is beets. Others include Chard, snap peas and Japanese cucumbers.

A view from the top - toward Escondido to the northeast. Trailhead is just visible along road in the left center of the picture. (Note: if you're new to blogs, this is the last picture in the series. Scroll down and read from the bottom).

Chloe in a mess of boulders.

Chloe romping about the saddle area.

Iron Mtn. from the sadlle area. Looking toward Lakeside.

Looking East from the saddle. Barely visible are the switchbacks leading along and around the hills. They eventually lead to Iron Mtn. Ramona can be seen from that area of the trail ahead. It would be to the left of this picture.

Up in the saddle: Chloe at table rock using her built in air conditioning (tongue). Lots of running water in the area which she used, too.

Iron Mtn. to the southeast ~ now in sun.

An old oak tree; new growth on the east facing limbs. Amazing resilience.

Looking back towards home from about halfway up. On a clear day...you can see the ocean and islands from here.

Fire last year then rain this. Much of the trail is washed out. Chloe in background hunting.

And some big ones. If you look cloesely you might see that some of the leaves that spread out around the base are singed from the fire. Such perseverance - or is it defiance - to repsond like this to the fire.

Lots of beautiful little flowers along the way.

Trail head again. Taken a little left of the first picture in this series. Will hike up to the saddle - about a mile. This is all part of the area that was burned last year. House is being rebuilt.

Trail head on Ellie Lane. Shot towards Iron Mtn (hidden in clouds, right hand side of picture).
